Welcome to LoCoPOGS!
Loudoun County Parents of Gifted Students is an independent nonprofit organization that serves families with gifted* children who attend private, public or home schools in Loudoun County, Virginia.
Our Mission: To support the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers by educating parents on how best to address the special needs of their children.
Our organization hosts parent education meetings which include expert presentations, panel discussions and parent information sharing. We also have an active parents-only Facebook group "LoCoPOGS" and we produce webcasts and research reports which help educators and parents gain a greater understanding of the unique needs of gifted children.
We occasionally host children's club activities. All LoCoPOGS meetings are free and open to all.
*We use the following definition of gifted: "Giftedness is asynchronous development in which advanced cognitive abilities and heightened intensity combine to create inner experiences and awareness that are qualitatively different from the norm. This asynchrony increases with higher intellectual capacity. The uniqueness of the gifted renders them particularly vulnerable and requires modifications in parenting, teaching and counseling in order for them to develop optimally." (The Columbus Group, 1991)
